Meet Robert Perkins, winemaker and sommelier at Boulevard Restaurant in San Francisco, who with his partner John Lancaster has been making amazing artisan wines.

I have had the opportunity to meet with Robert Perkins on two previous occasions  (2009 Hospice du Rhone in Paso Robles in May and The Rhone Rangers Tasting Event in Santa Monica in August 2009).  On both these occasions I tasted all the Skylark current releases and was very impressed with the whole line up wines.

My favorites were the 2007 Skylark Stagecoach Vineyard Syrah and the 2007 Skylark Red Belly. The 2007 Skylark Stagecoach Vineyard Syrah is one of the best Syrahs I have tasted this year. It is a powerhouse Syrah with a beautiful long finish. The 2007 Skylark Red Belly, a red Rhone style blend of 47% Carignane, 47% Syrah and 6% Grenache, is a complex fruit driven wine.
